Following recent news, Greater Anglia will be cutting its peak services from the May timetable changes to support boosting their "Stansted express services to 4tph" in the peaks". This will mean Hertford East services will run via Tottenham Hale instead rather via the current Edmonton Green routing.
Under the changes, the peak frequency will be reduced to 6tph from the current 8tph. Fewer trains and longer waiting times are expected. So far, no news has been received on whether there will be compensation for the 20% capacity loss.
One suggestion by us would be for TfL to increase the Overgounds Cheshunt branch to 4tph to retain the 8tph peak service. However, no comments or news has been made from TfL themselves if they will step up. We as a group have already settled complaints to the operator, the DfT, and raised this to the London Assembly on the matter.
Its understood this may involve a breach on its franchise agreement with the DfT to provide a peak service via Edmonton Green. There were attempts in 2017 to axe the peak service, however it no longer went ahead with a question raised to the House of Lords on this matter. It may be this time, the service will be axed leaving a significant capacity loss.
We will continue to push and campaign for the service to be retained or at least call for TfL to increase the Cheshunt branch frequency.
